Press Release Tips for Craft Shows, Shops and Events
PR is tricky, you have to be in front of the media as often
as possible, but not too much to be annoying.. and that balance
takes some luck and expereince. Here's a few "tricks" that
increase your chances of a write up. Since a press write up
is free publicity, every show and gallery wants to be included...
it is persistence that usually does it.
- Upcoming event: send a press release with the basics,
then include a Photo and an "Invitation" (the basic who/what/when/where
with some more details on our mission) on a separate sheet
so they can run it as a story as well. If you'd like me
to, we can put a more detailed version of the promo on the
website and you can link to it.
- Any news is good news: a press release every 3
weeks is about the right length of time. Sending Press Releases
around the holidays and include a photo and a short narrative
or history of a craft, an artist, or a charity event.
- Benefits and Features: Indicating that families
are welcome, promoting a demonstration of crafting techniques,
even kid-friendly projects will give your event high marks.
